So on this runoff day, Joe and Alan decided to talk from the heart about something you may not know about both of them.

Wilson received more than 80% support during a straw poll taken at the event.

Whether on the battlefield in Iraq or in courtrooms in South Carolina, Wilson emphasized his unique qualifications to become the top law enforcement officer in the Palmetto state.

Rep. Joe Wilson was on hand to moderate the event and introduce all the candidates for Tuesday’s runoff election.

“It’s such a pleasure to get out and meet so many wonderful people who are concerned about protecting not only our constitution but making sure they know they have a strong voice in law enforcement,” Wilson said.  “As a former prosecutor, I understand how important it is to give local solicitors and law enforcement the tools they need to keep families safe.”

Alan will have a busy Day #3 on the Defending the Constitution tour.  Friday’s stops will focus on the Lowcountry with rallies in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Hilton Head.

Wilson’s Defending the Constitution Tour is an ongoing dialogue with voters all across South Carolina about why his proven experience as a prosecutor and his combat experience in Iraq has prepared him to defend the constitution as Attorney General.

Wilson appeared with challenger Leighton Lord during the 3pm hour on Columbia’s WVOC AM-560 “Afternoon Drive with Keven Cohen.”

Lord had to sheepishly admit that Wilson’s current ad accurately states that Lord is not a criminal prosecutor.  Having never sent anyone to jail, Lord was grasping when being reminded that the South Carolina Constitution specifically spells out that the Attorney General is the state’s chief prosecutor.

Alan Wilson respects and will fully defend the constitution.  Alan has made the tough calls in the courtroom and on the battlefield.

When it comes to being ready to be South Carolina’s top law enforcement officer, Alan Wilson is ready for the challenge.

Alan’s passion for public service and knowledge of the criminal justice system was clear during the Wednesday face-off.

Meanwhile, Wilson’s opponent Leighton Lord had a tough grasp of what duties the Attorney General has to deal with.

During a discussion about the SC state Constitution,  Lord took issue with the Attorney General being the state’s top prosecutor.  Lord said the document has not evolved, and was written back when there were “2 or 3 solicitors in South Carolna.”

Not being a South Carolina native, Mr. Lord’s glaring lack of knowledge showed through.  Alan properly corrected the record, telling Lord there were eight solicitors across the Palmetto State back in 1895 when the Constitution was ratified.

Another clear difference came discussing criminal cases.  Lord touted about being on a Washington sub- committee that dealt with Asian gangs.  Wilson pointed out he is the only Attorney General candidate who has actually worked in a courtroom, putting away dangerous criminals.

Wilson began the tour Wednesday in Aiken.  Supporters gathered to hear the only prosecutor in the GOP runoff for Attorney General speak about the importance of following the state constitution and not allowing political temptations to drift in.

“People need to know where their next Attorney General stands,” Wilson told Aiken supporters. “I take the duty of defending the constitution seriously, be it in the courtroom or on the battlefield.  My opponent in this runoff has called our state constitution ‘outdated.’ As Attorney General, I will not pick and choose what parts of the constitution to follow.  My job will be to follow the constitution and make sure you and your family is safe.”

Wilson’s next stop was a familiar one, Lexington County.  Alan spent time as a prosecutor in Lexington County, keeping families safe and locking up criminals.    Alan spoke of his commitment to families and crime victims, saying it takes a person who has put away criminals to fully understand how to work with and lead law enforcement in South Carolina.

“Keeping families safe happens in the courtroom, not a corporate boardroom,” Wilson said.  “As the only prosecutor in the Republican runoff, voters have a clear choice this coming Tuesday.”

Wilson’s Defending the Constitution tour continues with stops across the Palmetto State from now until runoff day, June 22.

Alan has spent his time defending the Constitution on a battlefield and in courtrooms.  The choice is clear, a proven prosecutor or an outsider to South Carolina who spends his time in a boardroom.

Former Candidate Says “Alan Wilson Has the Right Experience to be Attorney General”

(COLUMBIA, SC – Monday, June 14, 2010)  Former candidate for Attorney General Robert Bolchoz joined former South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon in endorsing Alan Wilson at news conferences today in Mt. Pleasant, Columbia and Greenville.

Last Tuesday, nearly two thirds of South Carolina Republican Primary voters sent a statement that our next Attorney General needs to be a proven prosecutor.

Bolchoz, a former Chief Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Solicitor and Assistant Solicitor, agrees, saying, “I got to know Alan Wilson on the campaign trail. He’s a man of integrity, character and a proven leader. From the courtroom to the battlefield, he has proved he has what it takes to be Attorney General. I am proud to endorse Alan Wilson for Attorney General because he has the prosecutorial experience South Carolinians need.”

Wilson is now the only candidate for Attorney General with prosecution experience.
